Mission Statement

The aim of the BSCTA is to encourage and assist swimming coaches and teachers to develop both professionally and practically, with the intention of improving the sport of swimming, at all levels within Great Britain and the home countries. To recognise and reward good practice, represent the interests and views of coaches and teachers with the governing bodies of swimming, employers and other related groups, and to promote the activity of coaching and teaching swimming 'positively' to the world at large.

Introduction

The Association has a long and proud heritage of representing, informing and promoting swimming coaching for the benefit of the profession. We believe that a coach should be considered professional as a result of their effort and dedication, regardless of whether they are paid for their services or not. In 1997, the Association extended its support and services to swimming teachers and went into partnership with the GMB trade union for the purposes of protection of both professionals and volunteers. In November 2005, the membership voted to end this relationship and the BSCTA, whilst still giving representation and protection by different and more effective means, became more focused upon Coach Education & Development. It now has its own offices and contracts staff to administer its business & services.

Management

The BSCTA is managed by an Executive Committee which comprises of Officers and BSCTA regional committee members who are elected democratically at the Annual General Meeting, which forms part of the Annual Conference, held in various locations throughout the UK, each year. The Executive meets on three or four occasions each year, and the officers meet regularly to discuss and make policy decisions upon a whole range of subjects, as required or requested. The management Board comprises of BSCTA Officers. They deal with more regular management issues. From the Executive Committee, representatives are sent to the various governing body committees, working parties and related forums, which may impact upon the membership, nationally & regionally.
